RETAINING WALLS.BUILT TO HOLD.

Structural retaining solutions for residential and commercial sites across Bay of Plenty.

A retaining wall done right is invisible — it just works. A retaining wall done wrong is a costly, dangerous problem that gets worse over time. Peard builds retaining structures that last.

WHY RETAINING WALLS FAIL.

INADEQUATE DRAINAGE

The most common cause of retaining wall failure. Water builds up behind the wall, pressure increases, and the structure fails — sometimes suddenly.

UNDERSIZED DESIGN

Walls built to a budget rather than to the load they'll face. Looks fine for a year. Fails in year three after a wet winter.

POOR FOUNDATION

A retaining wall is only as good as what it sits on. Inadequate base preparation leads to settlement, tilting, and eventual failure.

The Peard Approach

HOW WE BUILD RETAINING WALLS.

01

SITE ASSESSMENT AND ENGINEERING COORDINATION

We assess the site and coordinate with your structural engineer or recommend one if needed. Walls over 1.5m require engineering sign-off in NZ — we know the process.

02

CORRECT FOUNDATION PREPARATION

Foundation excavation done properly — right depth, right level, right compaction. The wall's performance starts here.

03

DRAINAGE INTEGRATED NOT AFTERTHOUGHT

Drainage behind every retaining wall is non-negotiable. We install subsoil drainage, aggregate backfill, and drainage outlets as standard.

04

BACKFILL AND COMPACTION

Staged backfill in lifts with proper compaction. No shortcuts that lead to settlement and wall movement later.
